The delight derived from the connection of curved facades, crafted by the design approach of super-fluid curves.

If straight lines represent a rational, standardized form of industrial beauty, then curves embody an elegant beauty that is light yet rhythmic. Curved facades mark a brand-new exploration of the integration of architecture and art; they not only bring fresh aesthetic experiences in terms of form, but also endow buildings with greater creativity and vitality.

Super-fluid facades are designed with curved lines and rounded corners to create fluid, curved building envelopes. This design reduces the sharp contrast between different surfaces, softens the rigidity of the architecture, and thus lends the entire structure a more gentle, natural and smooth appearance, fostering a spatial experience that feels light, flowing and seamlessly unbounded.

Public Toilets in Aduo Town

On the square of Aduo Town, three themed buildings serve as the visual focal points, leaving no independent space for the public toilets. Between the pedestrian street and the square stands a sheer cliff as high as 7 meters, where the architects ultimately chose to site the facility. In this way, the entrance to the toilet courtyard faces the square directly, ensuring excellent visibility.
When viewed from the pedestrian street above, the white sunken structure nestled among the trees is the roof of the building. The earth-covered roof creates a natural transition with the surrounding vegetation, while also avoiding the rigid visual effect of connecting the street and the square with a large flight of steps.

The initial design proposed the use of matte finishing materials. The on-site prototype, made of spliced steel plates with polished weld seams, featured a smooth surface. However, this effect was not approved by the client during the construction phase. Coupled with constraints on cost and construction period, the architects grew hesitant about the original material selection and ultimately opted for white composite aluminum panels. This adjustment unexpectedly delivered a brand-new visual effect—after completion, many commented that it outperformed the intended smooth finish. Could this stem from the inherent perspective gap between architects and the general public? In the design, all doors and windows are cleverly concealed behind curved walls, with four functional entrances guided by signage systems. The facade is constructed by vertically splicing white composite aluminum panels, where 7-meter-tall whole panels achieve an excellent fit with the single-curved surfaces. When sunlight pours down, the space exudes brightness and clarity, and the seamless texture of the panels further enhances this sense of transparency and purity.

Baltic Sea Cruise Terminal
This new two-story terminal covers a total area of 3,700 square meters, designed by Hillenkamp & Roselius from eins Architects and constructed by SCHRAG Fassaden. The building complex boasts striking visual appeal, with its streamlined design seamlessly integrating into the surrounding environment. Expansive glass curtain walls offer passengers a stunning view of the dock. Inspired by the flow paths of passengers and luggage, the building’s form features curved facade sections paired with large-scale curved cantilevered canopies below. These elements exude a metallic silver luster under varying daylight conditions, evoking the interplay of light, shadow, and waves on the water surface. The facade is clad in extensive composite aluminum materials; its matte metallic surface reflects sunlight, mimicking the harbor basin and displaying ever-changing color ambiances as time and light shift.
