Nanjing South Railway Station Aluminum Alloy Ceiling
The aluminum alloy ceiling of Nanjing South Railway Station, Asia's largest high-speed rail hub, embodies a "timeless capital" design philosophy, harmonizing traditional Chinese architectural elements with modern industrial aesthetics.
The ceiling features (over 150,000 m² total), comprising tens of thousands of uniquely curved units with maximum dimensions of 5m×2m and 6mm thickness, precision-assembled via parametric modeling and BIM technology. Inspired by Nanjing's classical architectural motifs like caisson ceilings and dougong (bracket sets), the design integrates wood-textured aluminum panels and brass-inlaid decorative trims with glass curtain walls, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that reflects the city's "mountains, waters, and forests" ethos.
The ceiling integrates smart dimming systems to adjust translucency based on ambient light, reducing energy consumption by 25%. Seamlessly interlocked corner joints eliminate visible gaps, while hidden LED strips cast gradient light effects at night. Awarded the Luban Prize for Construction Excellence, it sets a benchmark for cultural expression in high-speed rail infrastructure.
